Too True Tuesday, better late than never

So Miss Essie wants to know what we procrastinate?  It might be faster to say what I don't procrastinate but what comes to mind at the top of the procrastination list is cleaning my own room.  I hate house work period but I also hate living in dirt so I have to get it done.  With 7 people here in this house and several pets house work is a revolving door that needs continuous tending to.

But my own abode my sanctuary my love nest ... is a pit, and I don't mean Brad.  A shameful health hazard pit of disgust.  I am doing good to keep the sheets changed and the toilet clean and let's be honest here sometimes the toilet is a little too gas station.  If I think I need to put down the ring o paper then I know it is past time to take care of that house duty.

The thing is that there is just not enough time in the day in the week in the month.

A week ago Mr. wanted to show Mr. Behavior Guy something on the computer in my room.  I was fully willing to embrace the impending meltdown because there was no way in this life time that the Behavior Dude was going to see the pit that is my sleep chamber.  That really should have inspired me to get to work on the room and be willing to let Mr. Behavior Dude come see the whatever it was on the computer the following week.  Fortunate for me that the computer got a virus and crashed so I scratched that worry off my list.

I also procrastinate making appointments.  I am equally bad at canceling appointments.  There are just so many that need to be made and attended.  4 kids, me and a husband to make dentist, doctor, school and so forth appointments for.  I am going to plead overwhelmed in this case.

Oh well recognizing that there is a problem is the first step to recovery, right?  Now if I can just locate step 2 we might make some progress!

Too True Tuesday

Okay boys and girls today we are talking about how we could have been cool if it weren't for these kids of ours.

Honestly there are so many examples where do I begin?  I'll go with this one.  None of my children have entered into pre-school with scissor skills and I don't care.  That makes me uncool for sure.  The fact is my children are dangerous with scissors and they cut stuff off with scissors that was not meant to come off.  Such as?  Such as the hair of baby dolls, parts of their clothes, parts of their shoes, bed linens, etc.  I am not going to mention any one specific name but I think we all know who she is.

Granted her scissor performance has matured over the last 6 months, she just turned 7.  But at age 3 when scissor skills usually get started, let's just say I wasn't ready.

I have been "talked to" by everyone of my kids pre-school teachers about how behind they are in this skill and how they need the opportunity to blah blah blah.  I smile and say, "Oh yes you are exactly right we will have to work on that for sure."  In my mind I am thinking no way.  Uncool parent right here!

Lil Bro is now 4 and he has absolutely no scissor skills what so ever.  Why?  Because he has an uncool Mom who is kind of paranoid with the scissor action.  I should be embarrassed and say that I am going to work on it.  That's what I should say.

Do you hear me saying that?  Nope.

So there I will take my uncool parent award and display it with pride.

Too True Tuesday # 16

Head on over to The Accidental Mommy blog and check out what other’s confessed regarding their Secret Indulgences.

Now as we have already discussed I am self-proclaimed queen of cheap. But something I won’t scrimp on is … ketchup. It is only Heinz all the times and the other adult family members know NOT to come home with some other brand or God Forbid generic ketchup!

Another will not go generic on is my toothpaste! Colgate Total is the only one for Brooke Shields, and me! In fact here’s my commercial for the brand – “As a SAHM white teeth are part of the job description because it helps to promote attachment in my traumatized children. (Insert big toothy grin with a gleaming white ding.) But more than that I want healthy teeth and that’s why Colgate Total is the only toothpaste I use. (Insert another big toothy grin with a gleaming white ding.)  It protects my mouth both day and night and when you're a Mom that could be taking a high heel sandal  to the face at any moment, trust me you want a strong smile!  (Ding)

Colgate has not called yet to pick up this advertising opportunity … but they will. They will.

Too True Tuesday on a Wednesday …

… because I am knee deep in messy underwear and I am sick with a head cold. I am happy to report that I am not having the messy underwear issue personally, in case you were wondering.

Okay so this TTT is regarding our obsessions and compulsions. I thought I don’t really have any and then I tried to put this post together and realized that I may need professional help.  Thanks Accidental Mommy!

I cannot tolerate anyone touching my face, dunno why. I once had a facial and had to walk away from it before I slugged the facial lady.

I obsessively wash my hands because I cannot stand for them to feel dirty and frankly I have to deal with a lot of yuck, what Mom doesn’t right? After pouring out the poop bucket with the dirty underwear water in it and bleaching it I wash my hands maybe 10 times because yuckkkkkkkk, so so gross.

I think my #1 compulsion is categories. I like for things to be in the appropriate category and it gets a little obsessive and by little I mean that even the toy box toys are in clear zippered bags of categories. I recently realized that I have rubbed off on my kids, even Miss M puts her animals into appropriate categories when she is playing with them, Lil Bro and the whole crew put things into categories. In fact if I toss lets say Mr. Robot into the train bin for the sake of time he ah well flips out a bit, “That not go there Mommmmm!”

This compulsion doesn’t always lend itself to a tidy environment, which it seems that it should. I think it is the whole work in progress mentality that we have here in Loo Loo Land. They are beginning to get the categories but they are not completely true to the categories, you see? The student has not become the teacher, grasshopper.

Too True Tuesday - TTT #14

So Essie has spoken and declares that today we reveal our most embarrassing listening pleasure on our IPods. Well the embarrassment starts there I guess, I don't have an IPod. We do have an MP3 player but I don't know how to work it and there is no music on my ancient flip phone.

I will use my imagination and share what would be on my IPod if I had one. Johnny Cash Ring of Fire and Walk the Line - forehead in hand can't believe I have admitted that. The really bad part is that I totally tease The Hubs for loving the Cash Man and he doesn't know of my imaginary IPod down loads. Twisted!

Willy Nelson's "You were always on my mind" would be there too, good. Lord. this is getting painful. Not to mention a Britney Spears song or two and yes Justin Timberlake sexy back.

I think someone should contact DCF because my poor toddler is trapped in the Mom Mobile with me singing on any given day.

Too True Tuesday - Getting My Cheap On

I think this post is right on for Essie The Accidental Mommy's TTT for today, Getting Your Cheap On.

How I get my cheap on:
  • refilling fancy shampoo bottles with less expensive shampoo
  • washing out zip lock baggies and reusing them (not every time, but I do)
  • the majority of our clothes come from yard sales or Good Will and if I am going to purchase something at the department store their sale has to be dead on for what I would pay at GW or I walk
  • it gets worse because I have now progressed to trying to only buy clothes that are half off at GW, the color tag system, I start at the GW in the fancy neighborhood because they have the best stuff and then I work my way through the other GW's in a 15 mile radius
  • I cut the one pound of hamburger meat in half and freeze it separately and use only half in my sauce or soup (I realized we don't need the whole pound for the sauce or soup to be good and no one here has noticed)
  • I buy the store cereal in put it in the "real" box, once the Hubs throw out the real box and I will be honest my reaction was not pretty
  • rip paper towels in half to save on how many we use
  • water down the juice to save how much we use, my kids do not like real juice they say it taste funny because they are so used to watered down juice
  • buy the family size yogurt and put it in the little cups
I will add to this list as the day goes on if I think of more.  It is all second nature now and my secrets are just my way of doing things so I am probably leaving something out.

Too True Tuesday

Too True Tuesday from The Accidental Mommy, this is funny stuff.

Similar to the Accidental Mommy’s post about Some Poor Woman at the airport I too have observed yet Some Other Poor Woman (we’ll call her SOPW) at the Wal-Mart restroom in an obvious parallel life with SPW – airport version.

SOPW seemed to have a 6 year old son with I am guessing Asperger’s Disorder who had apparently had to go and have his glasses replaced at the Wal-Mart eyeglass store for oh I am guessing probably the 10th time in the last six months. Of course said son of SOPW had to go pee and so off they trotted to the restrooms. They entered the large restroom at the end. By this time it appeared SOPW’s Mother In Law had joined them with a bunch of other kids, I lost count. They all piled into that potty at the end of the row of potties and when it was MIL’s turn Mr. Asperger’s loudly pointed out that “Hey Nan you have hair down there!” The entire restroom, which was packed to capacity, went silent. Accept, for the child that went on to ask further questions like Why? How? When? And no the restroom patrons did not wait to let their laughter floweth forth until after SOPW and family exited restroom. Boy did I feel bad for SOPW.

One time Mr. C went with Nan to a person’s home that he did not know. Said person had apparently burned some food item shortly before Mr. C arrived. Mr. C enters the home and begins to announce, “What is that smell? Boy your house sure does smell bad? Nan why does this place smell so so bad?” A red-faced Nan hissed “shh, it smells like a little burnt toast we will talk about this later.” “Burnt toast! Why did you burn the toast? Did you know it was going to smell like this? Boy this burnt toast really stinks, geeze Louise does it ever stink!”

On yet another occasion I was yet again faced with SOPW and a toddler son this time. Probably 2 and a half, I’m guessing. Probably recently potty trained, I’m guessing. Again picture the Wal-Mart restrooms. Picture SOPW sitting to use the toilet with toddler son present and as it happens in nature a minor toot-toot tooted forth. To which toddler son pointed out in the loudest voice I’ve ever heard, “Mom you toot-toot your butt!” Again, restroom was PACKED FULL OF PEOPLE because after all it is Wal-Mart.

On yet a separate other occasion I once again encountered SOPW with a toddler son and yet again they headed off to the restroom at a truck stop full of, you guessed it Truckers. Said toddler announces that he has to, “Poop out my butt Mom! We got hurry! I got poop out my butt!” Why this toddler child needed to be so loud I’ll never know. I sure did empathize with SOPW as she hissed “shh” and quickly shuffled off to the restroom.

What I have deduced from my observations, mainly of SOPW, is that the more children one has the more opportunity there is to be completely and utterly embarrassed in a public setting. That and it may be wise to avoid Wal-Mart bathrooms at all cost.
