My Turf!

Miss has been doing okay at home for the past few days. The CBA wanted to dive into her trauma history and what we knew this past Tuesday, which indicates to me he is at the bottom of his bag of tricks and is perplexed as to why she does what she does. We have had the knowledge all along that he would not be able to “fix” her problems but we have taken what we can from his knowledge to minimize damage to property and others. The house is a safer place to be because of his help and we value that greatly.

So as I mentioned Miss’ schoolwork does not look to good to me. She is not completing and or completely bombing on her Daily Oral Language assignments, failing math tests and failing spelling tests. I am not sure how much of this is legitimate struggle and how much is I am not doing it your darn way. The Hubs and I feel it is a combination of both from what we see when working with her at home on schoolwork. At any rate she is definitely bothered by schoolwork at this moment in time.

Wednesday Nan came to pick Miss up from aftercare and as she walked up the kids were playing outside so she stopped to observe. Miss was being aggressive toward another student, clearly bullying her and trying to get the ball away from her, the caregiver was present but did not seem to be watching and did not intervene. This went on for at least 5 minutes.  Eventually the other child told on Miss and explained what was happening and the caregiver explained that was not nice and Miss needed to say sorry.

Nan then went and spoke with the caregiver about what she saw and the caregiver said, “Well this child is a drop off and not a regular so Miss was probably just trying to protect her turf.” Did I miss something? Does that make it appropriate and acceptable? If it is your child that Miss is “protecting her turf” from would that be acceptable to you?

Nan questioned whether that made it acceptable and the caregiver said no. But it really makes us wonder what all is going on down there that we don’t happen to walk up on and see?

Ah, schools at their best! :( I've got opinions, but I probably shouldn't air them here. We WILL catch a Coke REALLY soon!!!!!

That is a question I am not sure I want to hear the answer to!

ACK! So the drop off kids can be expected to be dumped on? Scary!

What is a CBA? Like a home therapist? Or like a care assistant type thing?

You know, I think maybe the "protecting her turf" comment has less to do with explaining what the new kid was catching and more to do with defining the reason Miss was acting out. No, still not right, but it kind of makes sense in a pecking order kind of way.

Now if I can only teach my son that he's not the head rooster we'll be on to something.
