Spring 2010 Photo Moments

Spring 2010

This one cracks me up, it has everyone captured in their true self.

Precious!

So we are all dressed up and heading out for our service and I had everyone's outfit all picked out and Miss' outfit matched my outfit.  Guess who had a problem with the dress she had worn before without any complaints?

At first my Mama heart felt hurt and I felt irritated at her.  Why can't I have this stinking dress moment without her sabotaging it?  And then I realized how I felt and changed it.  It's a dress, so what, she has other options, is it worth a bloody fit?  No!  Moving on.  There are some things that are worth the fit, they are what they are and they are not changeable and so go ahead and have a fit and we will just deal with it.  But not over a dress, not tonight.

I changed gears and said, "You know what it's a dress, it's no big deal and it is better that you feel comfortable tonight rather than wear the dress I picked for you.  Let's pick another dress out."  She looked at me so blankly like where did the fight go?  She quickly picked this other dress when I pulled it out because she really did not care about the dress, it is never about the dress.

I told her she looked just as pretty in that dress, smiled at her lovingly and truly meant it.  The look on her face was shame.  She said, "I'm sorry Mom, about the dress."  I told her it was fine and that she looked great, no problems.

The rest of the evening went great.

Last night at bedtime, not so much.  But that's another story.

Follow Up - It's Not the Stork

Remember this post a few days ago?

Well the Universe is obviously out to get me because after enduring 'The Talk' the book arrived Monday - 3 days later. I am glad to report that it is a hit!
Mr. C said, "This is my favorite book you ever got me. It tells me everything I wanted to know." I am not surprised that my little brainiac is an aspiring M.D. but I wasn't envisioning gynecology as his specialty of choice.

The book arrives and he digs right in.  Notice the shipping paper on the couch behind him.

Why yes he did take the book outside with him to continue on in his reading.  You guessed right again that is sperm and egg caricatures that go on to become a zygote.

This book really does tell them the whole story.  It covers other issues too like all kinds of different families and okay touch and not okay touch.  Big Sis who is 10 was just as interested in the book and took her turn at reading it as well.  She did not feel that the labeling of body parts was appropriate.  I said, "well if no one tells a 6 and 7 year old what the names of those parts are how would they know?"  She said, "still".

So there you have the Loo Loo review.  The 7 year old is ready to head off to medical school, the 10 year old doesn't approve of the books complete honesty and the 6 year old took one look at the book and was not interested.  She moved on to her leapster.

My Parallel Life with the Duggars

This afternoon while I was cooking dinner Big Sis got the idea to go on line and print out a play for her and the sibs. Mr. C took that as an opportunity to start writing one of his books. It was so cute. They were totally in to what they were doing and did not even notice that I snapped a shot of the two of them.

On the home front news: Things are going well with Miss M. She seems to be back in the pleasant portion of her mood cycle, right on time. Even though she still cycles we don't see as many extremes in her behavior. The "I'm having a bad day" out burst would have been let me trash the house and rage and and and, ya' know. So we are truly blessed that such medications exist, that we have a psychiatrist who wouldn't give up on her or us, and helpful professionals backing us up.

Dad and I meet with Miss M's teacher Friday after school to discuss the whole "I love you" note on the paper and also to see what extra help we can give her for the areas that we already see her struggling in.

Her CBA was mentioning to me yesterday that he too picks up on the fact that she seems to have a processing delay. She takes longer to process the info coming at her than a typical 6 year old would and she also seems to narrow in on some, but not all of what is said to her. Sometimes what she picked up on is enough to get her the gist of what is being said or explained or communicated to her. But sometimes it isn't. We agree that looking at her school work she probably doesn't understand a good bit of what's going on in class but is darn good at faking her way through. So... we are hoping that Mrs. Teacher can provide us with some insight. At the very least we don't want Miss M slipping through the cracks.

Next - I am totally becoming the Duggars (minus a few dozen kids) "By used and save the difference."

I am posting some pics of our new used van. I felt like a car salesman out in my driveway snapping these pics.

And this is the quiet button. :-)

My Little Red Tricycle

We picked up this vintage tricycle (used), notice the rust on the front fender. This kid is having the time of his life! I did not think he could be more adorable.
I.
Was.
Wrong!

But...he is still into his trains just in case you were wondering.
Our friend Topham Hatt.

Miss M is still struggling. Very moody and emotional. Yesterday she exclaimed, "I'm having a bad day today!" She had been to a garage sale and purchased some treasures there. Went to the zoo with Nan and Big Sis. I missed which part was supposed to be the bad day part? Any who...

Miss 10 year old was not looking to have her photo taken, but she worked with me.

The Professor is back to writing books. That's a good sign. His attention had gotten so bad that he could not even focus to do that.

Who's Walking Who?

Picture this scene:
Little Guatemalan born boy in a jogger,
a quirky 6 year old boy of Korean ancestry walking a skittish Chihuahua,
an overweight thirty-something red-faced Mom pushing the jogger
AND holding on to the leash of a prissy Chihuahua Princess
AND holding on to the leash of a hyper-active 6 month old pit pull who has a thing for cats.
It’s no wonder we have repeated inquiries during our outtings as to “Who’s walking who?” Followed by Tee-hee-hees!

I wish I had an actual picture of our crew but as yet I have not mastered that task AND my new found walking responsibilities. Therefore, I'll rely on this pic
to give you the idea of what we look like trotting down our street.

The positive is that all of us are walking 45 minutes each evening, except Evan who rides in the jogger. Mr. C is keeping that heel down on the right side while we walk and he has the chore of walking Nan’s Chihuahua Chico. They are quiet the pair to say the least! I have explained to my little professor a few times now that “Chico does not speak English Mr. C.” His reply? “What language does he speak?” “Japanese I guess.” Hey I have to keep it interesting.

Superstitious?

It is a good thing that I am not superstitious because if I were I think my last bite of cereal doing this...

would not be a prediction of good things to come. What is going on here? Honestly I went to put that last bite in my mouth and saw this looking up at me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last night during my time with Big Sis after the little kids had gone to bed she brought out her "treasures" (her word people) from her stay at Grandma's house. When they would go for walks down by the river Big Sis would find and save these treasures.
It was precious. These smooth seashells and bottle caps told a story to her and her imagination went wild with where and whom they had come from. In the process of becoming a grown up we loose that and just start to see junk. Thanks to Big Sis for remembering that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and her sweet heart lets her see beauty anywhere. Even in bottle caps down by the river.
